Positions Available: Physics Instructor
Program Description: The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science programs at Boston University serve 136 Boston Public High School and Chelsea Public High School students by providing academic instruction, math and science enrichment activities, tutoring, social development and personal support. Students participate in both a six-week summer residential program and an after-school component. More information about these programs is available at www.bu.edu/ubms and www.bu.edu/ub.
Job Description: The instructor is responsible for teaching one to two sections of Physics during the six-week summer program for college-bound high school students. Each section meets for fifty minutes, four days per week on the Boston University campus. The course instructor is expected to develop and implement course curriculum, provide written evaluations of student performance, monitor one afternoon of study hall, and attend weekly staff meetings.
The position is part-time, 7-11 hours per week. Program dates are June 23, 2024, through August 2, 2024.
Educational Requirements: Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in education, physics, or related field with certification and/or teaching experience in appropriate content area.
Required Experience: Minimum one year teaching experience. Applicants must possess an understanding of the needs of disadvantaged youth and the creativity to respond to student learning needs with innovative ideas and approaches without compromising course content.
Excellent interpersonal skills a must.
Salary: $45 per instructional hour
