I am reaching out to provide the flyer and website link for the upcoming 3D Thursday Webinar for K-12 Rural Educators. Many thanks to those who distributed last month’s flyer, as it was both well-attended, and well-received. Using feedback from that discussion, we designed January’s webinar (Thursday, Jan. 7th at 7pm Central Time) to highlight NASA data resources, and we are excited to bring NASA experts from My NASA Data. You will gain access to free NASA resources while also learning how to use NASA data to incorporate student-driven/research design into your classrooms. Subsequent webinars will be held the first Thursday of each month. Please see the attached flyer for the registration link and forward to your members. We are seeking faculty at local community colleges, middle and high schools in the Northeast, Metro West, Metro North, Boston, Southeast, and Cape Cod STEM NEXUS areas to spend 6 weeks of summer conducting research alongside undergraduate students in an NSF funded Research Experiences for Teachers program focused in engineering. The program starts on Monday, July 6 through Friday, August 13, 2021.
Teachers are not expected to be proficient in engineering disciplines as the program is interdisciplinary with a focus on training and providing resources for incorporating engineering concepts in your curriculum. Teachers will gain experience working in a cleanroom as well as in faculty labs and through our program, we will work with the teachers and the schools to assist in integration into STEM curriculum. Something unique about our RET site is that we intend to continue to work with your school and teachers even after the summer program is over. We intend to help initiate a community of STEM engineering within the STEM networks where teachers and administrators can continuously support each other with new lessons and integration plans.

Free webinar on hurricanes: connect with National Hurricane Center experts on Thursday, November 19th!
A FREE webinar on hurricanes will be offered to grades 4 through 6 on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 9am EST (8am CST). This webinar is presented by the Hurricanes: Science and Society (HSS) Team at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography (URI/GSO) in partnership with NOAA's National Hurricane Center (NHC), and will feature NHC experts who will share their knowledge and experiences about hurricane science, hazards, preparation, and forecasting. The webinar will be hosted using the WebEx virtual meeting platform, last approximately 1 hour, and will allow classes to ask questions in real time.

Are you or someone you know looking for ways to combine art and science to engage youth? Now’s your chance to become a Cool Science Mentor!
Our online workshop is for adults who work with at least ten K-12 youth in Massachusetts, Kansas, or Missouri. We provide the art materials and supplies. You get to learn from home. Win-win!
Each workshop series consists of three online sessions. You can choose to attend one of the two options below:
· Weekday Series: Part I - August 3rd, Part II – August 5th, and Part III – August 7th
4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. (Eastern) / 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. (Central)
· Weekend Series: Part I - August 8th, Part II – August 15th, and Part III – August 22nd
9:30 a.m. -11 a.m. (Eastern) / 10:30 a.m. - Noon (Central)
During this workshop series, you will learn how to educate youth about the science of extreme weather through artistic expression. You will enhance your understanding of both science and art, which will help you become a better youth mentor. And, you will learn about an exciting art contest for youth.
BONUS! Online workshop participants will receive:

· Art supplies and lesson materials
· A pro-rated stipend of up to $200 based on the number of submissions to the Cool Science Art Contest*
*Mentors who attend all three sessions of a workshop series will receive $50. Trained mentors will also receive $15 for each mentee that submits a piece of artwork, an artist statement, and an accordion book to the Cool Science Art Contest, up to a maximum of $150. All stipends will be paid after the contest submission deadline has passed.
You will also get a chance to provide feedback in surveys and focus groups for the project’s evaluation, if you are interested.

Governor Baker issued an executive order on Wednesday, March 18 extending Massachusetts-issued licenses for certain professionals, including licensed educators. The order states that a license that is "in good standing" as of March 18, 2020 and which expires during the state of emergency will remain valid until 90 days after the end of the state of emergency. Guidance and FAQs related to the executive order are available online.

July 20-July 31, 2020 NEH Summer Institute for Teachers
Apply to join history, science and technology teachers from across the United States for a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for Teachers: The Cold War Through the Collections of the Intrepid Museum! The Summer Institute will immerse participating teachers in scholarly research as well as the artifacts and oral histories in the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s collection that embody the Cold War era. Integrating content exploring the historical context of technological innovation, the Institute will serve a national group of 25 teachers in order to deepen their understanding and increase confidence in their ability to explore the subject thoroughly, critically and engagingly with their students.
These projects are designed principally for full-time or part-time teachers and librarians in public, charter, independent, and religiously affiliated schools, as well as home schooling parents. Museum educators and other K-12 school system personnel—such as administrators, substitute teachers, and curriculum developers—are also eligible to participate. Applicants must be United States citizens, residents of U.S. jurisdictions, or foreign nationals who have been residing in the United States or its territories for at least the three years immediately preceding the application deadline.
Each participant receives a stipend of $2,100 for the two week institute.
