Are you looking for a summer professional development opportunity to meet your needs as a science education leader or specialist? Consider registering for the National Science Education Leadership Association’s flagship summer institute, a learning and networking conference especially designed to meet the needs of science educators in leadership roles.
The theme of this year’s NSELA Summer Leadership Institute, Leadership by Design, focuses on the importance of intentional and strategic leadership in the field of science education. It seeks to bring together science education leaders, policymakers, and educators to discuss and explore approaches to science education leadership and the role leaders play in designing for and promoting student learning and success. Several prominent national leaders in science education (Dr. Kate McNeil, Dr. Heidi Schweingruber, Dr. Wil and Stay VanderVeen, Chad Dorsey, Dr. Ken Miller, Peter McClaren), NSELA members, local educators, and speakers from area institutions such as Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design will present topics of interest and importance to teacher leaders, science coordinators and supervisors, curriculum and professional development specialists, informal educators, and anyone who leads and supports science education for teachers and students.
The theme emphasizes the need for leaders to design and implement programs and practices that are evidence-based and driven by a clear vision and mission. Throughout this conference, attendees will have the opportunity to network with peers, share strategies, and gain new insights and ideas to enhance their own leadership best practices in science education.
The conference will be held June 27-29, in Providence, Rhode Island at the Historic Hotel Providence, in the heart of the theater and arts district, just a few blocks away from Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design. The conference is open to all NSELA members as well as non-NSELA members who become members at the conference. Providence is easily accessible by commuter rail from South STation or stops in between.
Enjoy the opportunity to learn, play, share, and network with the science education leadership community in one of New England’s historic cities. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
